A regular visitor of Post offices in India often encounters the problems of timing. If the post office is supposed to start the operations at 10:00 AM, you will find that the people start creeping in after 10:00. They take time to freshen up and then only they come to attend the long queue.
We have become habituated is such circumstances, but even a veteran could never expect the same in the GPO, the chief post office of a state.
Its only on 1st of November when the long queue in GPO awaiting for speed post and other counter services could find only one counter to remain opened at 10:10. There were hardly anybody found inside the office to sit in any other counter. After a while people started coming in and it was finally at 10:25, when the other two counters had become operational.
It is really amazed to watch such a reluctant attitude of people of GPO. More interestingly, one person, supposedly the officer had started smoking inside while directing his staff. As per our knowledge goes smoking is strictly banned in offices and public places in West Bengal.
And look at the audacity of the government employee sitting right at the heart of the city, just at a stone throw distance from the writers’ building, the administrative headquarter and Lalbazar, the police head quarter!
This throws a glance to the root cause of the fact why the people turn their faces from the government offices.
