Colleges in West Bengal
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council certify that 210 colleges of West Bengal have been duly accredited by NAAC as on January 21, 2008, at a stage when NAAC accreditation has become a benchmark by all the government bodies and controlling authorities. The figure shown is surely not appreciable, when one compares the figure with some other states including Assam.
Here are some Findings:
- The inherent opposition of some members of the college
- The unawareness and fear of uncertainty
- The conviction level of the top management
- The confusing automation and modernization policies and approaches
- The mind set of the people of the college
We may portray some incidents
- One Principal says, “What will your Internet give me, I have got a huge collection of data, which your internet cant even think of”
- The cashier of the College is creeping into the college at 11:30 and then he is taking his lavish time for fresh up
- The Accountant is raising questions about the process, when the date of renewal of domain name and hosting expires and that too after the website remain running for more than 2 years
- One Principal says, “Wait, let me first check whether the website is up, then will think of the renewal”
- One Principal wants that the website should have more focus of the environment of the city than the college and students’ activities
There are surely some exceptions, but a major chunk has got such problems. There are unions and associations at each level, like Staff Union, Principals’ association etc. We hope they will start focusing on these to get the ball rolling.
Can we remain at the age of nineteenth century, when the world is haunting much ahead?
